Tigerclass visits falconer Ari
As a conclusion to our natural science subject „birds of prey“ the tigers payed a visit to Skyhunters Frechen, a little falconry park only a short walk from our school. Blessed with the best of weather we could witness various interesting animals. For starters a horde of ferrets was unleashed upon us. Everyone interested was allowed to pet them, cuddle them, hold them on their arms, let them snack some tasty maltcreme from their fingers, or even get a kiss on the cheek. Armed with a falconers glove we were free to go within touching distance with the white barn owl Selenia and the little owl Rommi. And everybody wanted…
The harris’ hawks were to lazy to fly, even when fed these tasty chicks. Well, after all it was a pretty hot day… Last but not least we had a photocall with eagle-owl lady Akasha. Quite big…
And what did we learn? Owlfeathers are softer than other birds feathers and are moving silent when the owl flies. Good for the hunt! The barn owl’s heartshaped face collects and directs sounds towart the inner ears and so the hearing is the most sensitive of any animal ever tested. And so much more… Time flies! Thanks a lot for the insight!!!
