Flying the boomerang

Posted by in Flight, Topics

Flying – a new project theme At the beginning, we had our difficulties in the first considerations on the subject of “flying”. Some of this was already discussed in the last school year (e.g. the subject of air). We already dealt with airplanes and their inventions at the beginning of the school year. In geography the topic “continents” was still missing… quickly the connection was found. On a project day we dedicated ourselves to the continent “Australia and Oceania”. The fairy tale of the Aborigines “The Invisible Companion” served as…read more

One week all around Flight

Posted by in Flight, Topics

As part of the Erasmus project Flight, the elephant class dealt with the topic in a project week. We have been working on the construction of an aircraft and have made our own hypotheses in experiments as to which objects fly, sail or fall. The experiments have encouraged us to make our own hypotheses, to test them ourselves by means of simple experiments, and have encouraged us to think. The paper flying competition was a lot of fun for us! The widest paper plane flew 14.8 m. This was the reward…read more

Paper plane competition 2019

Posted by in Flight, Topics

The AEROCLUB I NRW e. V. announced this competition and what could be nicer than paper planes? Therefore, the elephants decided to fold the paper planes very precisely in order to win.Step by step the edges lay again and again at the middle fold. After quite a lot of kinks and looks to the side, whether the neighbour needs help, cool codes or patterns could finally be painted on. On June 25, the time had come. In the gym class the own paper planes were finally allowed to climb into…read more

Tigerclass visits falconer Ari

Posted by in Flight, Topics

As a conclusion to our natural science subject „birds of prey“ the tigers payed a visit to Skyhunters Frechen, a little falconry park only a short walk from our school. Blessed with the best of weather we could witness various interesting animals. For starters a horde of ferrets was unleashed upon us. Everyone interested was allowed to pet them, cuddle them, hold them on their arms, let them snack some tasty maltcreme from their fingers, or even get a kiss on the cheek. Armed with a falconers glove we were…read more

The bee project

Posted by in Flight, Topics

In the Rocket class we started working on life in a meadow. There are lot of little animals like insects, spiders oder snails who are either flying or crawling. Pupils learned to distinguish these animals by playing games. Afterwards we chose the bee as a very interesting animal and started our intensive work on learning about bees and their life and doing something for the bees. We learned about the bees body characteristics, about their special eyes, about the society inside their population and about their different tasks. We created…read more

Come fly with us.

Here are some examples of our team plans. As you can see, each of the classes had their own perspective and focus, for example Bamburgh chose airplanes and gliders while Amble chose superheroes (specifically Supertato!!). The plans are developed with each curriculum area in mind along with the social and emotional development of our children. We put our plans into action and are now gathering feedback about the theme – look out for the summary which is coming soon.   Bamburgh Autumn Term 2018 Medium plan Termly Guidance Amble

Is it a Bird? Is it a Plane?

Posted by in Flight

No, it’s Batman and Robin! They came to our big planning meeting to teach us about flight and everyone got together to think about different aspects of flying. Our Deputy Head Teacher, Sally and our Admin Assistant, Lee did great jobs of embodying the role of a caped crusader. Plenty of laughs were had and we really got thinking about what we would like our children to learn. Each team has a specific subject that they would need to communicate to the whole group. Props were provided and all of…read more

Flying or falling?

Posted by in Flight

In the primary class, we continue with the kite’s flight.Today, taking advantage of the wind … we have gone outside the school to fly a great kite or at least we tried it! We have experienced the difference between flying and falling and the sensations that we perceive when it flies (we were very happy) and when the kite fell (we were not that much). We had so fun!! Maybe we’ll repeat it again…! Look at the photos and check yourselves!
